CONDUCT OF THE ROSEDALE RYDER CUP
March, 2010
Calculation of Handicaps:
Front Nine-Four Ball Match Play
The lowest handicap player in the four ball plays at ÒscratchÓ and the lowest playerÕs handicap is subtracted from the other playersÕ handicaps then strokes are allocated where they would fall during an 18-hole match. Handicaps are marked accordingly on the scorecards.
Back Nine-Two Person Scramble
This is a match play format. Each teamÕs handicap is calculated by adding the two playersÕ handicaps then dividing by 4 and rounding to the nearest whole number. The team with the lowest handicap then plays at ÒscratchÓ and the lowest team handicap is subtracted from the other team handicap. The strokes are allocated where they would fall during an 18-hole match and are reflected on the scorecard.
Third Nine-Alternate Shot
This nine is also match play. The handicaps for the two players of each team are combined. Then subtract the lower from the higher handicap to obtain the difference. The lower handicap team competes at scratch and the higher team handicap is the difference divided by 4 (adjustment to one player and 9 holes) and rounded to the nearest whole number. Handicaps are reflected on the scorecard.
March 2009
Tees:
This event will be from the white tees. Those eligible to play from the black tees (five (5) current scores from the black tees in the handicap computer) should do so. Black tee players will have their handicaps adjusted by the Golf Professional.
Games:
Front nine – Four Ball Match Play
Two play their best net-ball against the best net-ball of the other two players.
Back nine – Match Play Scramble
Both players hit tee shots, pick the best shot, both players hit another shot, pick the best shot, and continue until a ball is holed or the putt conceded. The ball may be placed within one club length, no closer to the green, from tee to green, but cannot be moved out of a bunker, hazard, OB, or rough. Ball may be moved six (6) inches on the green, no closer to the hole. Each player must use a minimum of three (3) tee shots.
Afternoon nine – Alternate Shot Match Play
Before the start of the afternoon nine, the two players must decide how they will alternate tee shots. For example: One player will hit the tee shot on 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 and the other player will hit the tee shot on alternate holes. The two players will alternate shots until the ball is holed or the putt conceded. After the tee shot, the ball is played Òas it lies,Ó so the players should agree on the type of ball before teeing off.
All of the 9-hole Competitions are match play:
The team that is leading by a number of holes greater than the number of holes remaining to be played wins a match. If a player(s) assume that their competitor will make a putt, they may concede it. At any time during a hole, if a player(s) decides the team has no chance of winning the hole, the team may concede the hole, the player(s) may pick up their ball(s) and move to the next hole. The team that wins the match receives a point and, if at the end of 9-holes the match is Òall square,Ó each team receives one half (1/2) of a point.
Points:
Each two-person team has an opportunity to win three (3) points, one (1) for the Four-Ball Match, one (1) for the Scramble Match, and one (1) for the Alternate Shot Match.
